'Sol i de dol' i 'Elegies de Bierville': Una transformació postmoderna ecològica / Nathaniel Mcbride
Mcbride, Nathaniel

Date: 2025
Abstract: Abstract: "The poetry collections 'Sol, i de dol' (J. V. Foix, 1936) and 'Elegies de Bierville' (Carles Riba, 1943) share themes of human subjectivity, the natural world, spirituality and transcendence, and words. This study employs theories of ecological postmodernism and ecofeminism to interrogate the contrast in how each work articulates these themes. This investigation shows that the poetry of Foix aligns with the modern philosophies of hierarchy and Cartesian human subjectivity separate from nature, while Riba portrays human subjectivity as formed in heterarchical relationship and based in the natural world. The transformation within time and the material world narrated in the Elegies facilitates social engagement that the transcendence of these in 'Sol, i de dol' prohibits. In this way, these texts illustrate a postwar literary shift to ecological postmodernism, as Riba offers an ecologically grounded response to epistemological crisis".
