Les diferències entre els dos textos són determinades pels distints contextos culturals i els diversos subtextos polítics que els sustenten; però, en aquesta diversitat, comparteixen un ideal comú, "traduir en un historiografia nacional els propis codis d'ètica i programes d'acció de la cort".
